Trading journal template (CSV)
Twelve columns. Eight come from your broker export, four only you can fill — and those four are the ones that find your leaks. Opens in Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets; imports into Sharpen as-is.
Trading — the 12 columns
| Column | Example | Why it is there |
|---|---|---|
| Date | 2026-09-07 09:35 | Entry time — by-hour and by-weekday stats depend on it |
| Symbol | NQ, EURUSD, BTCUSDT | P&L per instrument |
| Side | Long / Short | Long vs short expectancy |
| Size | 1, 0.5 lots, 250 USDT | Revenge sizing shows up here |
| Entry price / Exit price | 18412.25 / 18438.50 | R multiples, slippage |
| PnL | 149.61 | Net of fees — everything is computed on it |
| Fees | 4.20 | A leak on its own at 40 trades a week |
| Setup | ORB, pullback, breakout | Expectancy per setup — the most useful tag |
| Planned | yes / no | In the plan before you took it? |
| Emotion | 1–5 | 1 = calm, 5 = tilted, logged at entry |
| Notes | chased after 2 losses | One sentence, only if needed |
Sports betting — the tracker columns
| Column | Example | Why it is there |
|---|---|---|
| Date | 2026-09-07 18:40 | Time placed |
| Event / Selection | Chiefs vs Ravens / Ravens +3.5 | Sport, league, market type |
| Stake | 2 (units) | 1u = 1% of bankroll — compare months |
| Odds / Closing odds | 1.91 / 1.87 | Closing line value (CLV) |
| Result | won / lost / push | Settle the same day |
| PnL | 1.82 | Net of the stake, in units |
| Planned / Emotion / Notes | yes / 2 / — | Same discipline columns as trading |
What to compute from it: yield, ROI, closing line value and drawdown.
Filling it from your broker
- MetaTrader 4/5 — Account history → Report → export; keep the Positions table. Open time, symbol, type, volume, prices, commission, swap and profit map one-to-one.
- TradingView — Trading panel → History → export, or Strategy Tester → List of trades.
- Binance Futures — Orders → Trade history → Export; Realized PnL is PnL, Fee is fees.
- Sportsbooks — most bet histories export date, event, stake, odds and result; add closing odds by hand for the bets you care about.
Then add Setup, Planned and Emotion. Ten minutes on Sunday for 40 trades — or at entry time, which is when the emotion score is honest. The routine: the 15-minute weekly review. The formulas: expectancy and profit factor, or use the expectancy calculator.
